The PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test or NMSQT are right around the corner. In a few weeks, Juniors will have the opportunity to showcase their test taking techniques. We have had a few students become semi-finalists with the inception of the new 1520 format. Scores above 1500 have made it into consideration. If you want to know your score, this Saturday we are administering a practice PSAT at our office.
The RIGHT NOW generation as it has been called will face new challenges. 2015 graduates of Universities have an employment rate of 64% with 18% returning for more education. This has come from a record set in 2013 of 81.9% of students graduating high school. The costs have left 22 million students with student debt at an average of $22,813. It is important to schedule schooling to be able to complete it in four years which only 40% of students are able to achieve.
The majority of students factor in cost into college selection decisions. Money Magazine has compiled a list of “Best Colleges for Your Money” with Texas A&M; Virginia Polytechnic Institute; Clemson U; University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign; St. Johns U; Earlham C; University of Washington to state U; UC Santa Cruz; And Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
The trends are positive with 72 percent of Computer science grads with full-time employment followed by 66 percent of business grads and 62 percent of engineering grads. Just as we plan for high school curriculum and life choices so should we take a broader, holistic approach to college education. If you have burning questions or are new to the process, Palos Verdes Peninsula Test Prep and Tutoring offers flexible programs to meet one-on-one with a professional college counselor.
